I had to let Sasha go last Friday. You’ve all been so kind, I thought you’d want to know. Rather than weep, I think in her honor we should all laugh, eat something we love, and raise a toast to the scavenger dogs of the world. Here is a link to one of my favorite stories about her, the butter story:

I had forgotten that butter story!
I shall toast the pirate dog and I’m sure where she’s sailed to, there’s a never ending supply of food scraps to snarfle without any negative consequences!
Hugs to you!
Hugs to you, Barb. Saying good-bye is so damn hard.
Raising a toast to Sasha, and how lucky she was to have you as an owner!
Hugs and love to you both and all! I’ll go hide some treats for mine to find in her piratey honor 😉
In Sasha’s honor, I’ve placed a bowl of Hershey’s kisses beneath my kitchen table. Chocolate might be bad for dogs, but in her next life, Sasha can feast on them.
I’m so sorry for your loss, I loved that dog too. Always good for a little laugh just to see her happy face nosing around for food. She will be missed.
You guys are the greatest.
So sorry for the loss of your faithful companion.
Big hugs. Letting go of a beloved and faithful friend is one of the hardest things we have to do in life, even when it’s for the best. Sasha’s gone to a place where she can frolic like a puppy again… and where no one takes away her stolen stick of butter. 🙂
Oh, Barbara, hugs for you and Sacha.
There are no words, just hugs.
What a lovely tribute to one so well loved.
May the memories you carry always bring a smile to your heart in the days to come.
I admired her spirit and determination and loved the story of the stolen butter.
Hugs.
K.
Caro, she was SO happy, wasn’t she? I’d love to learn to be like that.
I’m sure she’s gloating at all this attention and chocolate!
Barbara, I am so sorry for your loss. It is very hard when a member of the family passes on and I know Sasha was a much loved member of the family. Best wishes for you and yours.
Hugs, Barbara.
Hugs to you Barbara.
Oh much much love to you Barbara. Here’s to the butter-stealing, piratical and scavenging Sasha.
Thank you all for the hugs. I know you get it.
Hi Barbara,
I just found your blog today. I knew you were a kindred spirit when I saw the dog on the cover of The Secret of Everything.
And then to find your post about Sasha broke my heart. I’m so glad she had you.
Loved the butter story. I KNEW the outcome before you said it! I had a pirate dog once too.
Thank you for a wonderful memory of Sasha. I am putting you on my reader and hope to visit regularly.
Off to hug my boys–and put up the butter.
Oh, Maria, what a beauty your boy is!
Barbara, thank you for sharing her life with us.
I’m so sorry, Barbara. It’s not easy to lose a furry family member. You and Sasha are in my thoughts. (((hug)))
Condolences on your loss. I had to let go a beloved dog a few years ago, and it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I had to call my father and get him to tell me what I already knew–that it was okay to let Jack go–before I could be brave enough.
What a blessing to have had Sasha for that many years, and further blessings that you have piratey stories to remember her by. A good dog is one of life’s best gifts.
