Sorry to be absent so much lately. I’m working hard on the 2011 book. it’s the most ambitious I’ve undertaken so far, and it’s taking all my writing huevos to get it on the page. I did write a post on setting for Writer Unboxed yesterday, and it has generated some excellent discussion. Please join in.
IN OTHER NEWS: I am delighted to let you know that THE LOST RECIPE FOR HAPPINESS is a RITA finalist. Quite a powerful panel of books, and I’m honored to be in such company. Happy, happy, happy.
I’ll write a post about my deep and visceral reaction to Tucson one day soon. In the meantime, I’m studying Spanish and have gone back to cello. Thinking hard about a vegetable garden this summer. Needed some hobbies that were not related to words and writing!

Congratulations! I was so excited to see Lost Recipe had been nominated as I waded through the day, waiting for GH news for several friends and Rita news for others. This book was the first I ever read of yours, and it so sucked me in that I have been trying to read nearly your entire back list in the last year. I wish you the best of luck for Nashville!!

The other thing I wanted to share is that you really opened my eyes with your post on Writer Unboxed. Location, location, location. I just had to sit back and say, “guilty.” AND, what’s also interesting is that in the books I’ve been reading lately, location is paramount. So, here I take a lesson from you and from what I’ve been reading. I am going to be diligent about this, I promise I will. Thanks for that post.

Congratulations on Lost Recipe!! Loved it! Another book set in New Mexico I just finished is Willa Cather’s, Death Comes for the Archbishop. Describing the setting as she did, I knew exactly what she was seeing! This is one of the reasons I enjoy your work so much, I see what you see. Good luck in the gardening, so excited for it to warm up more!
