For some reason, I like rereading things at Christmas time, and I specifically like big, thick historical stories. My favorite is DOOMSDAY BOOK, by Connie Willis, which is historical and slightly futuristic and juicy and deep and heartwrenching and beautiful. Because, well, Connie Willis wrote it. If you are unfamiliar, it is a medieval time travel. Sort of.
I’ve actually been reading a lot lately. Service Included, by Phoebe Damarosch Damrosch, a memoir about working at Per Se in NYC, and Keeping Faith by Jodi Picoult are two I liked a lot. EDIT: dreamed about the memoir last night. Brought back a lot of memories, and I fell in love with Andre right along with her.
What’s on your nightstand this week? What are great books to read over Christmas?
