Cell phone pics banished forever more

Last week over dinner one night, Christopher Robin said, “I think you need to take me out to get bacon for breakfast on Saturday morning.”   I said, “Sure, okay. Why?”  He said, “No reason,” in that sing-songy little voice that says there is a reason.  But I’m patient.

Well.  Turned out that he landed a bonus and knew I’d been wanting a little camera to stick in my pocket because my cell phone camera is so bad.   We picked out the most adorable little Nikon CoolPix, which ends up being about twice the camera we now have for 1/4 the size and 1/4 the price we paid three years ago.  So goes technology.

There is a LOT to learn, so I’m going to shoot something new every day until Ifigure out all the features.  This is one from yesterday.   Jack was making snow angels.   (And remember, he wants you to know he has a STARRING role in Lost Recipe.  Not that he’s vain or anything.  Just beautiful.)

Really, if you had a dog that looked like this, wouldn’t you make him the star, too?   🙂

Anyone asking for a camera for Christmas? Buying one for someone else?

  1. What a cute, snow-covered face! I’ve been wanting a digital for some time, something especially good for outdoor pics and close-ups, and have a feeling I may be getting one this Christmas. Guess I’ll find out in a week… *g*

  2. Scarlet

Too cute! I have both a gorgeus dog myself and bought two digital cameras as gifts this Christmas. I was so tired of mine disappearing into my two teenaged daughters book bags and coming back to me with chocolate embedded in the nooks and crannies.

Have you noticed that with the surge in blogs and social networking sites taking self portraits is now not only acceptable, but is becoming an art form? Some of the photos are so creative, even with the extended arm visible.

  3. Barbara, that has to be the best looking dog I have EVER seen.

    Enjoy your new art tool.

  4. Hi Barbara — been visiting for some time now, but your beautiful photo has me delurking … look at the snow on his face! So lovely … 🙂

  5. He really is beautiful! And I’m really more a cat person than a dog person, so that’s saying something. His eyes are so soulful.

I got a Nikon Coolpix S560 before my trip, but ended up with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 (awesome zoom!). I’m giving the Nikon to my daughter for Christmas, though. Once she saw it (yep, it’s probably the same adorable one you bought!), there was nothing else she wanted.

  6. Oh, Barbara, what a beautiful pic. He reminds me much of my late, great dog Kobe.

  7. What a cutie! Jack looks like he has a great appreciation for the snow.

The only item on my wish list this year is a Nikon CoolPix. Crossing fingers…

Oh yes, that mug is just tooo cute.

And yes, I have asked for a digital camera for Christmas. For a couple of reasons: (a) you, Barb, are always talking about the photos you’ve taken and I’ve seen some of them and they are beautiful; and (b) because photos have become magical for me and I want them to enhance my writing. Indeed.

I remember snapping photo after photo on my Kodak camera, while nice, is hardly going to cut it in 2008. Therefore, I’ve asked Santa to bring me something else. Let’s see if he does…

  9. That is such a darling face! Give Jack a kiss for me.

  10. Is his name Bear?

Bought a Cybershot 7.2 with a Carl Zeiss lens for Oldest Girl Hatchling. I’m waiting to get a Cannon Rebel. Right now shooting with film on my old Minolta maxxum.

  11. *g* I knew his name was Jack. (but he looks like a bear.)

  12. Barbara

You guys love dogs as much as I do. Trust me, he is EVEN cuter in person. If he likes you, which is not always the case.

Heather, hope you get that camera, and Scarlet, you must send me a link to your dog pics sometime. I think there’s a dogster site and I think Jack and Sasha and I must find it. (Must make a priority of telling Sasha tales. Jack is lovely; Sasha is side-splittingly hilarious.)

Yvonne, you are officially now my best friend forever.

Jeez, Olivia, I’m so glad you delurked so I could have a look at your photos. Wow. (I especially love the cameo and hands.) I’m humbled.

Julie, you too. The Wales shot of autumn trees is worth the whole journey.

Kara, so glad you think of Kobe when you see my baby. 🙁 It so sucks that they don’t hang around long enough. I’ll give Jack an extra kiss tonight.

And Eva–ha! Even a vet said to me once, “I’ve seen a lot of dogs named Bear, but this one really should have been.” 🙂

He is a gorgeous pooch, you just want to kiss the snow off his nose! Great shot.

Already bought the new camera this year, instead Santa brought me (slightly early) a cute little blue Acer netbook that I have to figure out.

Barb, if I should happen to be the recipient of a digital camera this Christmas (just sayin’, I certainly don’t KNOW), I promise to send you some photos.

Years ago, I had one of those Kodac instamatic cameras (riiigghht, what is that again?), and I used to take photos of everything, anything, didn’t care what it was. I just loved to take pictures. It was my joy, indeed, it was. Well, throughout the years, I have had many cameras, although nothing real sophisticated, and my last camera got ruined, unfortunately, by my ex, who rebuilt cars for a living and left it in his shop, only to be clogged up with bondo and dust. Niiiiccccce. I haven’t had a camera since.

Well, I so enjoy your photos and I’d love to go back to photographing just anything and everything and so, should Santa bring me a digital camera, I’d love to share some photos with you.

Let’s see – Christmas is, what, two days away??? I’ll check in later, promise. I will let you know.

  16. Yvonne, I would be so thrilled to see your photos! Actually, Mel recently purchased a camera, and Julie shoots a lot–maybe we need our own little Flickr group or something!

It’s so wonderful that you want a camera again!!!!

  17. Absolutely adorable dog!

I received a Canon Rebel for Christmas. Very happy!

  18. I have been trying to add your blog to my feed reader, but it gives me an error. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

  19. I’ll ask more savvy folks, Tiana. Wonder if anyone else is having trouble.
